Spiderman folds over lawsuit

It seems that the Spiderman movie star Tobey Maguire has got himself into a web of problems. His friends and family are worried that Maguire is still very much hooked to gambling, especially poker.These concerns emerged following a deal Maguire made by agreeing to pay $80,000 to help the victims of Bradley Ruderman, an ex-hedge fund manager serving a 10-year term for tax, wire and investment advice fraud convictions.

Ruderman was accused of operating a huge Ponzi scheme; unlawfully utilizing investors’ funds to pay off his gambling debts.Maguire is one of the pool of celebrities like Gabe Kaplan of “Welcome Back Kotter” fame and Nick Cassavetes, who gained hundreds of thousands of dollars from Ruderman at exclusive and closeted poker games which took place at posh Beverly Hills hotels and private venues.

Even if Maguire, Kaplan, Cassavetes and others have been sued in Ruderman’s cases, it should be noted there are no criminal charges against them.A close party to Maguire commented that the bankruptcy trustee is trying to collect some of the funds from the celebrities involved and he is concerned that Maguire has still not learned his lesson from all this. It seems that the Spiderman superstar has not quit playing his favorite game; poker. He certainly has the means to gamble and gamble big with a circle of people as passionate as him for this game.

Maguire is a high profile celebrity poker player, just as Ben Affleck, Jennifer Tilly, James Woods, etc. He has finished in the money in several events and has been tutored by poker professional Daniel Negreanu. It is said that Tobey has won $10 million by playing poker in Hollywood.
